Damnit, I tried really hard not to chime in with any reasonable logic..

BUT:

You (general consensus of OP and agreed) keep saying they "handled it poorly" "they dropped the ball" etc.

How? How did they do that. I have yet to see any logic to that. So the limit was breached, and they made a mistake, while fixing it a simple mistake was made. Everything is honkey dorey, and principally (a word I see being thrown around with no real substance), they cared for it pretty well, informing the public of the mess up.

Saying nothing would have recieved this same response, if noticed at all (the 7000 accidental that is). But ANet took the ball, and decided to use it and not "drop" it or pass it off.

There was a mistake, ANet fixed it, and then explained it. Beyond whining, the only use for this thread is for acting as a politcal stepladder to lobby for the removal of the favor system alltogether. And if thats the case, you are using a pisspoor ladder at that.

So now you have my arguments of why you are wrong. Advise me on the HOW of yours?

Thanks Gaile. I dont mind a cap at all, and if A.Net had said last weekend or whatever "you guys met our cap, if you want your accomplishment to add to favor you must wait until the minutes go below the cap." People would have griped, but it would have been fair.

Anyway, refer to my first post in this thread (maybe GWO) about how I know how often you go up to bat FOR US, and I really appreciate it.

i agree with this post. I swear that people on Guru will find anything and everything to whine and cry about.

cant anyone say Good Job A.Net for finding the goof and fixing it?? is it really that hard to apreciate something that A.Net tries to fix?

I think Guru should make a whole seperate section for crying and whining, but oh wait thats all anyone every does on this forum anyways

Good Job A.Net and thanks for the fix.

On the topic at hand, I truly do understand what you're saying and will see if we want to take a look at this plan. Do keep in mind that it's not intended to have an "All Favor, all the time" situation. A ceiling or a cap doesn't seem an unreasonable element of the Favor system. But I understand what you are saying about the chain of events, and I will pass that along.
Thanks for the update. A question tho if I may. If Favor was supposed to be capped all along, then why no "The Gods Blessings will no longer be extended" message. Otherwise it looks like the 'favor is supposed to have a cap' statement looks, on the surface and to the slightly cynical made up in order to justify a certain position
Here is my humble suggestion, on how to resolve it.
1. Add on another 28K mins when this favor runs out.
2. Fix the bug to a cap of say 34K mins
3. Put in a message if the cap is hit to say so.

That way everyone knows where they stand, and a cap can be properly introduced to be in line with the original design.

I believe favor is capped at 34,999 atm (unless it was updated) I posted a thread about it a couple days ago but no body responded.

The problem everyone has is that there was two errors. The first was the overflow that rolled over the favor to zero. ~36K minute were lost when that happened. When they fixed that error, they mistakely added 7k minutes. This left the playerbase a net LOSS of ~29K minutes. The problem I and others are seeing is they are choosing to fix only one of the mistakes, that would lead to more of a loss of favor to the playerbase.
It was good that they did post it ahead of time in Gaile News. It is good that it seem that it never took effect, 33k still on the server. It also good that Gaile listened to our concerns.
The only mistake i can really see is that this topic lets poeple know what A-net CAN do. Before, people probably thought the main reason for the minute not being returned was because they didn't know if it could be altered. They really did open a can of worms.
It is sure as hell not being used as a political steping stone to remove favor system completely. Nice strawman you build there. Only mention of this is from flames and trolls. People who had concern only mentioned that taking favor for one error and not restoring for another seemed unfair.
Just because some people care about the favor system, how it work, and want it to work fairly doesn't mean their concerns shouldn't be heard.

but why start a whole crying session over a few mins? i hate it when people try to justify their crying over something as non-influential as favor mins and such.. as of right now we have way more than enough mins and whats a few more days of favor?

let me just say this if you are worried that you cant produce the amount of monies to make it into these areas without favor then maybe you should find someother place to farm till you can.

a.net did what they thought was reasonable for every one and we should be happy with that. if you are not happy and only worry about how this will affect you then maybe you should play something else.

when you say we are having favour stolen from us, you imply that people max titles for the sole reason of earning favor.

when i got LDoA twice, i sure didnt give a crap about the favor i gave the world. nor do i give a crap that the favor got reset. i have NEVER EVER needed to go to FoW and had to wait longer than about 20 minutes... long enough to farm a few mobs for some lockpick money.

if you ask me, reset it back to 0 minutes again, just to see people squirm.

Yes, we have plenty of favor.

Yes, it doesn't matter much, anyway.

Yes, whining about it won't help.

Yes, nobody should really care.

BUT...

I certainly do see the OP's original point. Why go to all the trouble to do an update, write an announcement explaining it, and risk pissing people off (which they obviously did, regardless), all over a measly 7k points, when the actual accounting error is tens-of-thousands of points in the other direction?

Being that anal is just unattractive and stupid. (Honestly, the other word I'm looking for is "unfair", but we all know how "fair" life is, so I'll refrain.)

Everyone should let the subject rest, and that INCLUDES Anet.

Not particularly worried about the number of minutes we have, however I can see that the op and others have a point about Anet fixing the mistake that was made while fixing the mistake, but not fixing the original mistake. Kinda bass ackwards.

btw, Gaile stole my.... motivation.

The favor system is an outmoded relic of the past that doesn't even affect most groups going into UW or FoW. Passage scrolls pretty much killed the need for favor.

It's not only that.

You get better drops in favor time.

So right now, we have 33,075 mins of better drop time.

So how about you people, GIIT OUUUUT!

Yeah, would love to see the empirical evidence of that.

However, you do get blessings from the avatars. So, there's that.

By a "few miniutes" you mean the 29000 debt we currently are in? That accounts for over 20 days of favor, close to 3 weeks. Hardly just a "few miniutes."

The thing is, people are NOT QQing about this. They are just trying to discuss it. Anybody who wants to have an intellectual discussion about this is just getting flamed and called "whiney babies" even though Galie herself posted saying there are some valid points to these discussions.

Every one just stop trolling to +1 your post count.

At first, I thought this was just bad public relations, and a severely anal thing for ANet to do, with no benefit whatsoever, but then I thought about it.

I mean, every minute that we have favor is taking money directly out of ANet's pocke... Wait.

My mistake. It's just stupid.

My question for the day is this: "Why put a limit on what (time) can be earned to begin with?"

Seems like to me, thats just poor planning.

Granted who whould have thought that that much time could be stored up, but its just resonable (in my way of thinking) to "be prepared for the unexpected"

What's the point of favor anyways, it's clear that ANet doesn't really know what to do with it.

Just remove it, it doesn't even affect the game anymore.

Please keep it to a civil discussion. No flames, no insults and no personal attacks on any other poster's or ANet/NCSoft staff, thank you.
